Is A Career In Engineering Technology Right For You?

Engineering technology is effectively applied engineering, in the sense that engineering is conceptual, and engineering technology is the application of those concepts. There are many jobs which utilize these technologies, and jobs are relatively easy to get if you can graduate with a master's degree. Even if you only get a much lower grade than this, you should still be able to find employment as an engineering technician. This is a complex career, so unless you have an aptitude for, and a liking of, mathematics, it is probably not for you.

If you are serious about a career in either engineering or engineering technology, you had better realize now that a lot of study is going to be necessary. These are highly academic careers, and a high standard of education cannot be substituted. If you are looking to become a licensed engineer, you need to know that only degrees in engineering are acceptable for entry, and not degrees in engineering technology. Engineering technology is more the application of the designs of engineers, and a qualification in it is not enough to get you the title of licensed engineer.

There are several significant differences between engineering and engineering technology. The first and most significant is that engineering programs are focused on theory and the development of ideas, whereas the engineering technology programs are focused on the application of these theories and ideas. The more theoretical engineering courses need a far higher level of mathematics, and utilize it a lot more in daily practice.

Engineering and engineering technology are highly academic studies which require a high level of intelligence, the ability to understand scientific concepts, and also the ability to question and to develop original theories. Traditionally, you will nave needed to have attended a college before you could have any hope of a qualification or a job. Now, there is still the same requirement for a high level of education, but there is one significant difference. Online learning has made study a lot more accessible to millions of working people.

You can train for a qualification in engineering technology by studying at home, and of you do choose to do this you will be giving yourself a good test as to your discipline. Handling home study well does suggest that you will be a good candidate for a career where attention to detail and dedication are paramount. You need to be able to set your own time schedule, and discipline yourself to follow it. There is no-one else to do this for you. The other important consideration is to choose your college carefully. Many of the new online only courses are every bit as good as the ones of our most illustrious institutions, but some are not. Be careful, choose wisely, and you will have a great chance of qualifying in engineering technology.
