How To Become A Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist

A technology specialist is someone given a certificate by Microsoft to prove that they can successfully implement one of a range of software products. These Microsoft certifications open the door to many career opportunities which were previously closed. Although lack of certification is not a total bar to employment, there is no doubt that employers put a very heavy emphasis on these qualifications. If you are serious about wanting a career working with one or more Microsoft applications, getting qualified in this way is pretty much essential.

The technology specialist certification applies to one specific technology, although there is of course no bar against you becoming proficient in more than one. You will need to take some kind of training course, which is usually carried out on your own home machine, and then sit at least one examination. Some of the more complex technologies have more than one exam to sit. When you have passed these exams and proven your capabilities, you will have earned the right to be called a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, and you will also be part of the Microsoft Certified Professional community.

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist is the title which you can then apply to any business cards, and which you can place on your resume when you send it off applying for jobs. Unlike most qualifications, this one does not have an infinite lifetime. It becomes inactive when support for the technology the qualification relates to is discontinued. In most cases, there is the opportunity to train in whichever new technology takes its place, and retain the accreditation.

Even if this is not possible, the retired qualification will remain on record to prove that you were able to pass the exam and work with the technology. This is not likely to be enough for an employer in the hugely competitive job areas we are discussing here, but it will be helpful in securing some kind of employment while you retrain in another aspect of computer technology. There is also the bonus that once you have passed an exam, any exam, on computer technology, you will find any future exams so much easier.

Because this qualification involves working with computer technology to a very advanced degree, it fits in perfectly with the new trend in online learning. There are now far more opportunities open to study these subjects than there have ever been before, as established colleges are now offering online equivalents of their proven campus courses. Not only that, but there are also many new colleges which only operate online. With a new name, you are taking slightly more of a risk, but so long as the course and exam are genuinely Microsoft certified, there should not be a problem. Simply pick the program you wish to specialize in, and try for a career as a technology specialist.
